Barbara Stout has shown nationally and internationally, including China, Australia, New York, Boston, the Washington DC area, and Seattle. Stout began her showing history at the China National Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou, China, while she was still in college. More recently, Stout’s work was part of the International Artists Exchange Program in Yangzhou, China, and was selected to be in the show What Does Compassion Look Like? to celebrate His Holiness the Dalai Lama's visit to Seattle. She has completed two public art commissions for the State University of New York Upstate Medical University’s Hutchinson Psychiatric Institute. Before moving to Sebastopol, Stout taught drawing part-time at the State University of New York, Oswego. She got her bachelors from the University of Montana, and continued her studies at the Boston Museum School. She also had the privilege to study with Chinese master artist Ji Ruoxiao. Stout is a New York Foundation for the Arts Mark10 selected artist, and a Whidbey Island Arts Council Working Artist Grant recipient. She was one of four featured artists in the Pleasure Zones international exhibition with catalog essay by art historian Dr. Melissa Reimer. She was a featured artist in the award winning Stone Canoe; A Journal of Arts, Literature and Social Commentary, 2012. Stout’s book chapter about her work was published by Peter Lang in Activist Art in Social Justice Pedagogy.
